The Power of Relationships
Greetings to you all for a new week. As usual it's a pleasure sharing my thoughts about business and money matters with the world. This week I'm gonna focus on Relationships in business.
Every business needs relationships to succeed and survive. Relationships help people to GET INTO business with you but more importantly STAY in business with you in the long term. Relationships are based on trust and it is much easier to tell a familiar person about doing business with you than it is to do a lot of business with someone you've never met or spoken to on the phone or maybe they're come into your business via an autodialer calling their home or office. The latter mentioned group of people, very seldom stay in businesses than do those who go into business with a feeling of personal welcome and acceptance.
So where do these relationships come from? How do we establish and maintain them? Relationships are essential to long term success in business. There are no huge businesses that became that way by their leaders and owners isolating themselves. According to Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad Poor Dad book series), "Rich people look for and build networks, everyone else looks for work". That is so true and it ties into last weeks topic (Strength in Numbers). Now huge businesses profit from thousands and thousands, even millions of people but all of these people weren't reached personally by the owners of the businesses. They reach the masses through networks of people.
Building relationships is not rocket science. You just have to put yourself in the position to meet and greet many business people even if they are not in your exact line of business. Chambers of commerce are perfect for meeting with business people. Holiday dinners are perfect as well. This situation may be similar to a fox in a hen house but you're not going to go around thrusting your business at everyone. What you need to do is to stand back calmly and observe everyone around you. Look out for those who are warm and friendly in appearance and who may be easier to talk to. Then you go over and introduce yourself and just have simple conversation. You don't necessarily discuss intense business at that particular time but you just gather background information from them. Where are they from originally? What business are they into? What they do for recreation etc? Simple conversation is easier than you think and people respond positively to those who take a sincere interest in them personally. By the end of the night, you should have collected at least 5 or 6 business cards from people whose personalities stood out or whose business services you may require in future. This is only the first step. Remember you're very much a stranger to these people so you don't magically dive into business and get rich the following day or week. Great relationships may take some time to be built but the time is worth it.
On Wednesday, I'll be outlining how to actually build solid relationships with your new contacts.
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
I share opportunities with people who are interested in earning extra income and charting their own course to financial freedom.
